SP-520 and SP-560

The following questions relate to the SP-520 and SP-560 Speed Controls.
  • Q. What port in the receiver do I plug my 520 and 560 into?
  • A. Electronic Speed Controls always plugs into the throttle channel, typically CH #2 for a two-channel radio and CH#3 for a 4 or more channel radio.
  • Q. What is BEC?
  • A. BEC. stands for Battery Eliminator Circuitry. This means the speed control supplies power to the receiver and servos from the motor power battery so there is no need for a separate battery pack for the receiver.
  • Q. Is the 520 and 560 reversible?
  • A. Yes, they are both reversible type speed controls with a 3 second delay for safety.
  • Q. Does reverse have variable speed?
  • A. No, reverse is one speed, approximately one quarter that of forward.
  • Q. What are the motor limits on the 520 and 560?
  • A1. SP-520: No lower than 19 turns.
    A2. SP-560: No lower than 14 turns.
  • Q. What if it overheats and quits running?
  • A. The 520/560's are equipped with a thermal shut-off circuit. Once the ESC cools off it will start working again.
  • Q. How do I avoid overheating?
  • A. Make sure you are not using a motor with lower turns than is recommended. You may also be over-geared or be shifting from forward to reverse too much, this can put more load on the controller than it will handle. Try using a smaller pinion to reduce the current draw, this will also give you longer run time on a charge.
